During this summer vacation I had the privilege of participating in a two week service visit in a series of villages in rural India near the town of Sidhbari, nearby the city of Dharmsala, Himachal Pradesh, India through the organization CORD (Chinmaya Organization for Rural Development). It was a perspective-building trip that was focused on rural immersion and understanding the farming and agricultural practices of the farmers in the villages. There 25 of us high school students from all across the United States meeting here, and we had an opportunity to not only work with the farmers, but with women's groups, adolescent girl's groups, young children's groups (Balavihar), self-help and microcredit groups, and other institutions established by CORD to improve the lives of the villagers. An exciting and eye-opening opportunity in rural India. So blessed!
